Oluwatobi Adetona is a lawyer, advocate, and founder of the Bonafide Advocator Initiative (BOFAI), a youth-led organization committed to transforming juvenile justice system in Nigeria. For over five years, she has worked at the intersection of law, social justice, and youth development, mentoring more than 1,000 children and young persons in correctional centers across the country. Her work provides not just legal education and representation, but also psychosocial support, vocational training, and structured reentry pathways known as the 'Aftercare Program' to reduce recidivism. Driven by close, consistent engagement with the children and young persons in the correctional centres, Oluwatobi is now leading a bold initiative to reimagine education within juvenile correctional facilities. Having identified widespread disengagement from existing educational/library resources due to low literacy and lack of motivation, she is introducing targeted mentorship and foundational literacy tools using books, games, civic education kits, and mobile learning platforms tailored to each child’s needs. Her vision and approach includes a reward-based learning model designed to spark curiosity, boost engagement, and build self-worth, with support extending beyond confinement through the Aftercare Program such as school sponsorships, access to learning tools, and sustained mentorship. At the heart of her work is a simple belief that justice must be restorative, not punitive. Through BOFAI, Oluwatobi is not just challenging the status quo, she is building a future where every child, no matter their past, has the chance to grow, learn, and thrive.
